Process  I treat portraits as a subset of figure painting. I don't try to "reveal" any more of a person than what is already shown by their physical presence, don't add props, and mostly ignore furniture. I like to look for just the right angle on a face, for poetic or dramatic lighting, an arresting moment that any bystander could see. |
